UNLV sophomore bass player and vocalist John Losey is a member of the well-established local band 7 Foot Midget. This summer the band released their first full-length CD, "Erectnaphobia" - the clinical term to describe the fear of penises. Edgy and often humorous and sarcastic lyrics such as, "I Don't Date Mormons 'Cause They Don't Date Me" and "I love the USA, I'd die for it any day...I'm sure it'd do the same for me someday" coupled with the band's talent makes for an impressive 13 track CD. Losey, along with fellow band members Nick Vincent, guitar and lead vocals; Nick Whalen, guitar and vocals; and Jay Losey, drums, spent most of the summer touring 10 western states and promoting "Erectnaphobia." The sound of 7 Foot Midget can be compared to bands like NoFX and Lagwagon. The band has been together for four years and is well known throughout the Las Vegas local music scene. Playing local hotspots such as The Huntridge and The Sanctuary, which is now permanently closed, has greatly contributed to the local success of the band. 7 Foot Midget has performed with bands such as the Ataris, Guttermouth, Voodoo Glow Skulls, HB Surround Sound, and Alkaline Trio. They perform as often as their schedule allows. All four band members currently go to college, hold down jobs and loyally attend band practice twice a week. Along with their musical talent, 7 Foot Midget band members put on an impressive, energetic and comedic live show. For the last three years, the band has performed in their underwear as an annual tradition. While 7 Foot Midget claims no interest in becoming the next commercial success, they clearly have the talent to do just that.
