7 FOOT MIDGET
By Allison Barfield and Rachael Bubeck
Never published, but questions asked circa May 1999

#1~ What is responsible for the inspiration behind 7FM songs?

NICK V: Well, as for bands, we are influenced a lot by the Epitaph/Fat Wreck Chords bands, obviously. I like Weezer and Metallica. Basically anything melodic. We like to keep things melodic, but not simple three-chord wonder stuff. We definitely try to make the music complex. As far as lyrics go, I just try to write stuff that will make people stop and think. Or laugh. Those are my two main goals. A lot of what I write is sarcasm. "Hardcore Punks," "Idiotic Patriotic," and "Christine" are all pretty satirical. I try not to say what has already been said a million times before. We try to keep the songs about girls down to a minimum - those get annoying after a while. I'll leave those to MXPX.

NICK W: What a dumb question. So I'll answer with "Penis envy."

JAY: Plenty of armstrenth and persperation.

JONN: Really it is problems with society and how good Christine looks.

#2~ What does everyone like to do in their spare time?

NICK V: I don't have spare time, really. Sleep, mostly, I guess.

NICK W: Nick Whalen likes to TRY to break dance, and sometimes he enjoys playing with himself --- but he usually never does both at the same time.

JAY: Read and think about how all girls are good for is doing housework for their men

JONN: Video games are my passion, that and sleeping.

#3~ What are your thoughts about the local scene? Should it prepare to suck, or do you think it will get better?

NICK V: I dunno. I don't really like those kind of questions. It depends on a lot of factors, venues, bands, but mostly people involvement. People need to stop coming just for their band and stay to see the other ones. Else, how will anyone find out about other bands or styles they haven't heard but might like?

NICK W: Nick W. thinks that the scene doesn't suck, but it could get much much better.

JAY: I think that before it was on a downhill race to benevolence but it is now making the long trip back up the mountain. But I think we need to have more people get involved in not just supporting by going to the shows, but also having a good time and putting their hearts and bodies on the line in the pit.

JONN: I think the local scene is going to get better. Many excellent bands have been formed these days.

#4~ Do you think the re-opening of the Castle is going to help aide the local acts in getting more exposure and recognition like the O-Zone did before it closed its doors?

NICK V: Any venue for local bands is a good thing, just as long as stupid kids don't screw it up like at all the other places. I think the Castle is going to keep the price down to around 4-5 dollars for local shows, so that is good. Being only a block away from the Ozone, the Castle pretty much picks up where the Ozone left off. And it's all ages, which is also good. It definitely has potential.

NICK W: The O-Zone was a horrible place. They charged way too much, and their sound system sucked. The Castle cannot be compared to the O-Zone, because it is just sooooo much better. And yes of course, it will help bring much recognition to all punk rock rock bands.

JAY: A little bit, but it won't make a huge difference because most the people who support our shows don't want to drive out to tinbuckto for a local show that is going to burn a whole in their wad-o-cash

JONN: I think it will aid bands in their upward climb by putting the shows on the radio and with another venue to play at.

#5~ Are there any local bands that you enjoy? Any that have been an influence to you personally, or with the band?

NICK V: We have had the opportunity to play with a lot of good local bands, too numerous to name them all. Swallow This has got to be the best Vegas punk band around (when they're not drunk). I really like their music, and they are nice guys, too. Curl Up And Die has replaced Shelf Life (R.I.P) as the best band to see live, their shows are insane. They have also really helped us out along the way, especially when we started the band, and we owe a lot to their infinite wisdom.

NICK W: Although none have influenced me on a personal level, whenever I see really kickin bands rock the house, I want to strive to do at least as good as them. Me gusta Swallow This, Happy Campers, y Curl Up and Die.

JAY: I really enjoy curl up and die because of their music and how brutal their shows get. A local influence would have to be nobody.

JONN: I enjoy many bands. Some of them are CUAD, SWALLOW THIS, FADED GRAY, and 2 CENTS WORTH.

#6~ Rachael and I are looking forward to a new tape... any ideas on how soon/not so soon we can expect one to be out?

Well, we want to get a good digital recording, so we are shopping around, but that costs money, so probably not anytime real soon. Maybe within a year or so. When we do it will most likely be on CD, probably/hopefully a full-length, and it will sound a lot nicer than the tape we have out right now. One of our tentative titles is "Hairy Nipples is a Way of Life." We also might possibly be on some compilations in the future, so keep an eye open for them.
