CD Review: Erectnaphobia

In this crazy town, the punk scene is very busy. And it's not in that apathetically busy kind of way, by just being out there, but actively busy, with all kinds of bands making records and jumping into the musical pool, trying to splash everyone else in the face. 7 Foot Midget's first full-length, Erectnaphobia, just jumped off the deck, formed like a cannonball.

At first, the cannonball technique works—a solid wall of speedy guitars, but then things settle down. By the fourth track, "Lost and Found," the band has hit its stride and feels a little more comfortable in its skin—so comfortable that it's actually possible to sing along on tracks like "Christine," "Toys 'R Us Kid" and "Just a Slice of Butter and Some Bread."

Whether it was intentional or not, most of the vocals—sung by three members of the band—sound as if Eric Cartman was recruited. Which is a little difficult to sit through if that's something you aren't used to; sometimes the melodic guitars makes you forget about that, and sometimes it's hard to ignore. Erectnaphobia is hit or miss, just like making cannonballs in the pool.
